Construction Updates

With many construction projects planned here in Grandview Heights we want to keep people who live, work, and play here connected with up-to-date information on the impacts they may experience. Below we have listed construction projects with maps and information, a real-time blog post for each project, and a link to sign up for email and text alerts. Improvements to West First Avenue

  • First Avenue will be resurfaced from Virginia Avenue to Northwest Blvd. 
  • Palmer Avenue at the corner of First Avenue will be realigned to decrease the width of the intersection and to be more perpendicular to First Avenue. 
  • As a traffic calming measure and for pedestrian safety, the width of First Avenue at Virginia Avenue will be decreased by constructing curb “bump outs’ on the northwest and southwest corners. 
  • The sidewalk at Pierce Park along First Avenue will be widened and improved with paving bricks. 
  • The mid-block crosswalk across First Avenue will be improved with bump outs to reduce the width of First Avenue. 
  • In collaboration with the athletic association, the outfield fence will be moved in to improve the field and to gain more public green space outside the fence.

Improvements to Broadview and Ashland Avenues
  • The existing water line from First Avenue to Third Avenue will be replaced. All existing service lines will be reconnected to the new line. This will require the water service to be temporarily shut off. Residents will be directly notified of the date, time and duration.
  • The streets will be resurfaced along with entire length and width from First Avenue to Third Avenue.
Improvements to Westwood and Elmwood
  • The streets will be resurfaced along with the entire length and width from First Avenue to Third Avenue.

  • The railroad bridge will be widened from two to four lanes.
  • Signals will be installed at Edgehill and Bobcat as well as at Edgehill and 5th Avenue.
  • Water lines will be extended from Grandview Heights corporation line.
  • Dead end water lines will be extended to Third Avenue on Dover, Norton, Parkway North, Holly and Oxley.


Improvements to West Goodale Boulevard

  • West Goodale Blvd will be resurfaced from Grandview Avenue to Northwest Blvd. There are a few places where the subsurface will need to be excavated and re-compacted.
  • The sidewalk curb ramps at the intersections will be improved and in some instances curb bump outs will be constructed to reduce unneeded pavement.
  • A planted boulevard will be constructed within the center lane of Goodale Blvd. along Buck Park frontage.

  • Curb ramps will be reconstructed and signal poles will be upgraded at Oakland Avenue and First Avenue underway, to be completed by mid-summer.
  • Curb ramps will be reconstructed and signal poles will be upgraded at Oxley Road at First Avenue to be completed Fall 2016.
  • Curb ramps will be reconstructed and signal poles will be upgraded at Northwest Boulevard and Goodale Boulevard to be completed Fall 2016.
