Breaking and entering suspect flees; warrants filed

Posted on September 12, 2017 at 11:20 AM by Laura Oldham

At approximately 2:40 am, officers observed a suspicious vehicle in the alley between Virginia Ave. and Willard Ave., north of W. First Ave. Upon approach, a known offender was observed leaving the area of a garage and getting into the vehicle. The suspect then fled from officers at a high rate of speed through the residential area. Our officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect, but he continued to flee. The vehicle was not pursued due to already having a positive identification along with the immediate danger posed to the public. The suspect is identified as Nathan Nelson, 20, of Columbus, Ohio.

This morning, officers filed misdemeanor warrants on Nelson for failure to comply, driving under suspension, and driving without a valid license. Additional charges may be pending after two detached garages on Virginia Ave. were found to have been entered and items reported stolen. These locations are in the immediate area of where Nelson was first observed. Nelson is a suspect in numerous reports of burglaries and breaking and enterings over the past two weeks, along with Jessie and Trina Bumgardner. The Bumgardners were arrested on September 8, 2017, for a burglary that occurred on Inglis Ave while the residents were asleep in the home.

All of the reported entries into homes and garages over the past two weeks have been made through unsecured windows or doors. Please remember to secure your homes and contact us immediately if you see suspicious activity. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Grandview Heights Police Department at (614) 488-7901.
